Feast of Tabernacles 2018
Feast of Tabernacles in Winchester, United Kingdom
The beautiful cathedral town of Winchester in southern England will be the site for the 2018 Feast of Tabernacles in the United Kingdom. Numbers expected are between 40 and 120.
Winchester is a historically rich city, once the capital of medieval England and the royal seat of the Saxon King Alfred the Great over 1,100 years ago. Because of its popularity with local and European visitors, we are encouraging you to book early to ensure you find the accommodation you want. Accommodation (hotels, bed-and-breakfast, and self-catering) and parking are available a few minutes’ walk from the hall.
We have obtained a discounted group booking cost at the Premier Inn — a 15 minutes’ walk from the hall and a 5-minute drive. Reservations at discounted rates will be coordinated through the Church. Costs will be published shortly. An upmarket hotel closer to the hall is the 4-star Mercure Wessex Hotel, which is 100 metres (yards) away from the hall. You can also find budget accommodation through AirBnB in the area, or use transport to and from the Holiday Inn, Winchester (2.5 miles away).
Here are a few ideas for accommodation in hotels and self-catering units. We hope the suggestions are helpful — but please do your due diligence. If you have any ideas or find some jewel of an idea, please share! We'll start a Facebook page to facilitate that.
We recommend you check the distance of your accommodation from the town center where the Guildhall is located (opposite the bus terminus). Taxi costs and bus trips can be estimated if you do not have a hire car. There is a pay-per-hour car park behind the Guildhall.
Self-catering homes and cabins
Holiday Lettings — a variety of homes and flats working out at good per person rate. Ensure you have details of getting into town center and/or cost of taxi if not hiring a car.
Hometogo has a selection of cottages and self-catering units. Check distance from Winchester center and cost of taxi.
Tripadvisor has some suggestions not covered by other sites, and has general comments from previous clients.
Winchester Tourism Board summarizes for you the self-catering options.
Blackwood Forest cabins — Post code SO21 3BG — 60 self-catering wood cabins 10 miles from Winchester. Sleeps 6, but 4 paying adults for 10 days £600 pp, 6 people £400 pp approx. You would need transport or share a taxi.

Holiday Inn is 2.5 miles from the hall.#
AirBnB offers flats / rooms rented to visitors.
We will be releasing the forty Premier Inn rooms mid April as the hotel would have required the Church to pay on behalf of visitors, and then recoup costs. The quoted price by booking online at their website seems to be okay. 15 minutes walk. Car park on the premises. On bus route to town center.

Services for the Feast will be held in the Victorian-built Winchester Guildhall, either in the Walton Suite (up to 80 attending) or the King Alfred Chamber (from 80-120). It is located in the downtown area of this architecturally beautiful and unspoiled English city. We are planning catered lunches for Holy Days and the Sabbath, and there is a variety of cafés and restaurants in easy walking distance of the hall.
Winchester is a small and well-looked after city with much of the city center designated a pedestrian area. This makes it easy to enjoy the popular shopping streets and access to the parks and Cathedral grounds.
The Norman-era Winchester Cathedral, over 550 feet long, is just five minutes away from the meeting hall. Queen Mary Tudor was married to Philip II of Spain here 450 years ago.
The medieval banqueting hall called King Arthur’s Hall, with its famous round table dating to pre-Tudor times, is a 10-minute walk away. Popular sites like the Beaulieu National Motor Museum, Jane Austen’s home in Chawton, Stonehenge, Southampton and the naval port of Portsmouth (home of Nelson’s flagship, the Victory, and remains of Henry VIII’s warship, the Mary Rose) are all within short distances by car or bus. Also within striking distance by car or bus are the 3,000-year old fortress site of Old Sarum, Salisbury Cathedral, Bath with its Roman baths, Windsor Castle and the New Forest.
A few bus tours will be arranged throughout the Feast to a number of the area’s tourist attractions mentioned above. For more information, please keep checking http://british-isles.cogwa.org/feast-of-tabernacles/ as we will be adding details in the next few weeks.
There are good train and coach services from London Heathrow airport.
